Breast MRI refers to the MRI examination of the breast performed using special breast coils (antennas) in MRI devices. During this examination, contrast material is administered intravenously to enhance the visibility of cancers.
Breast MRI is the most sensitive method for detecting breast cancer. It is often used to further evaluate suspicious findings detected on mammography or ultrasonography or to determine the extent of a diagnosed cancer. Additionally, for patients at high risk of breast cancer due to personal or family history, breast MRI is applied as a screening test. If suspicious lesions are detected only on breast MRI, biopsy under MRI guidance is performed at our center.
