Breast radiology is a subspecialty of radiology that encompasses all medical imaging techniques related to the breast.
Breast radiologists perform and plan breast cancer screenings for both average-risk and high-risk patients using digital mammography, tomosynthesis, breast MRI, and ultrasound techniques.
When suspicious findings are identified through imaging, breast radiologists perform image-guided procedures—such as core needle biopsy or vacuum-assisted biopsy—to obtain tissue samples from the suspicious area without the need for surgery. These samples are then sent to pathology to determine whether the lesion is cancerous, allowing appropriate treatment planning to follow.
In suitable cases, breast radiologists may also perform minimally invasive procedures to treat benign tumors.
At our clinic, the breast radiology unit is designed as a separate floor to ensure patient comfort and privacy. The department is led by Prof. Dr. Levent Çelik, who has many years of specialized experience in this field.
Our Breast Imaging Unit is a full member of the European School of Oncology Breast Centres Network.

Awarded Accreditation by the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft)
In 2021, the treatment processes of over 100 breast cancer patients treated at Istanbul Oncology Center were individually reviewed in detail. The evaluation confirmed that the treatment protocols were in full compliance with international standards. The physical infrastructure and staff qualifications of the Breast Center were also thoroughly assessed and approved on-site by an expert review panel.
As a result, the Istanbul Oncology Hospital Breast Center and Radiologica Imaging Center have been honored for the third time with the Breast Center Accreditation Certificate by the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft).
