What are the Advantages of Tomosynthesis?

Tomosynthesis:

Just as lung CT scans are superior to regular chest X-rays, in two-dimensional images there is visual clutter caused by overlapping structures. This clutter is significantly reduced in sectional three-dimensional tomosynthesis images, which markedly lowers the chance of missing tumors. This advantage is especially important in mammography for women with denser, fibrocystic breast tissue and those who have not yet reached menopause.

With tomosynthesis, thin sectional images of the breast are obtained, eliminating the visual confusion caused by superimpositions.
