Biopsy can be performed on cancers detected by mpMRI using the transrectal ultrasound fusion biopsy method. This method allows more accurate biopsy of the suspected cancerous area by matching ultrasound and MRI images. With high patient detection rates, MRI-guided biopsy is superior to transrectal randomized biopsy in patients suspected of having prostate cancer. It is the most sensitive non-invasive radiological imaging method for prostate cancer detection.
Additionally, fewer side effects and less pain, as well as a reduced number of biopsies from the suspected area, are the reasons why MRI-guided biopsy is preferred. In this way, a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan (active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy, focal therapy) can be made for patients.
